Share your story of how you became an artist or how you came to be interested in art. I'll begin here by sharing mine......
I come from a family with a long line of artists in our midst. When I was a young child I was very quiet and shy as well as being the youngest of four children. Everyone else in my family seemed to have some sort of artistic talent. My mother was a painter and played the piano and composed a few songs here and there and my father would always engage us in singing when our family took frequent trips up to northern New Mexico to visit our grandparents. Both of my brothers took music lessons from an early age and both are now singers and play instruments as well. My father's side of the family was also known for their southwest weaving talents, the Chimayo weavers. Both of my brothers became weavers as well. My sister is an author of children's books and is also has many hobbies such as sewing, knitting, rubber stamping and she now has a weaving loom in her own house.
To make a long story short, then there was me. I didn't really have any talents as far as I could see so when I was in my late teens I started taking jewelry classes and learned how to make simple earrings etc. Once I got started my new hobby snow balled and I discovered that it was really something I enjoyed doing. I spent lots and lots of time collecting beads and charms and tools of the trade. Mostly, I just made jewelry for myself, family and friends. Finally a few years back I found Etsy online and I got up the courage to open up my own shops, Lucinda's Charms where I sell the simple charms and pendants which I enjoy wearing and Lavender Moon Jewelry where I sold more ornate designs embellished with lovely beads, lockets and charms a and handmade cabochons. Lavender Moon is no longer open but I slowly plan to add more of those more ornate designs into my Lucinda's Charms shop. I love simple jewelry pieces as well as embellished pieces equally. That's why I've incorporated both into my shop. LucindasCharms.etsy.com
